What is a Property Title

Property Title is a record of Property ownership history.   When Property is transferred, it is usually legally recorded on a Property Deed.   Among other things, the Property Deed specifies who bought and sold the Property.   The legally recorded information becomes part of the Property Title.

Some Property Deed transfers may not be legally recorded.   In these cases the buyers and sellers do not become part of the Property Title.  In order for a person to be listed on a Property Title, the transfer of the Property Deed must be legally recorded.

In most mortgages, the lender holds the Property Title until the loan is paid off.
